Welcome to Namibia

Namibia offers the perfect elements for an ideal holiday destination - plenty of sunshine, breathtaking landscapes, a wealth of wildlife, a very sparsely populated 824 268 km2 and good beer. If there is one thing you can be sure of, it's the fact that Namibians are very proud of the top quality beer brewed here and there is nothing that quenches our thirst in the hot climate quite like an ice cold lager.

Being a semi-desert country, the climate is dry with warm/hot days and cooler nights. Our much needed rain season falls mainly between January and March and this generally will also be the period that most Namibians have extremely good moods....depending on the amount of rainfall of course. Namibia is the most arid country in Southern Africa and our water is extremely precious. Only a handful of our rivers are perennial, most of our rivers flow only after good rainfall and they are found throughout the country.

The leading economic trades in the country is fishing, agriculture, mining and tourism. The latter offering treasured landscapes such as Sossusvlei, Etosha National Park, the Skeleton Coast and the Caprivi region to name but a few. The country has a well developed infrastructure and a wide variety of accommodation that suits everyone's taste. Almost 18% of our land is covered by National Parks and Reserves and when it comes to conserving our precious country with it's fauna and flaura, we are world leaders. Namibia is the first country in the world to incorporate “Protection of the Environment” into its national constitution. Herewith we protect a certain portion of the land from commercial or agricultural development. The excellent administration of these National Parks is handled by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism.

Our population has one of the lowest densities in the world. Namibia is very proud of of its rich ethnic diversity and the people of Namibia and their cultures differ as much as the contrasting landscapes you will come across when visiting us. English is the official language but not the most widely spoken. We have close to 30 different languages and dialects.
