Welcome to Hiking in Namibia

Namibia has a range of walks and overnight trails available for the enthusiast who likes to explore nature up close and personal.
Fish River Canyon Hiking Trail
The Fish River Canyon trail is one of southern Africa's most challenging routes and this trail takes hikers through one of the largest canyons in the world. Don't expect five star treatment while doing this self-guided four to five day hike of 85 km. You will be surrounded by absolute wilderness for these days. The trail is only open from 15 April until 15 September due to heat and the danger of flash floods during the rainy season. Hikers carry all their equipment and food for the duration of the hike and a medical certificate no older than 40 days should be handed in before starting the journey.
Namib Naukluft Hiking Trail
There are several walking trails from where to explore the Namib Naukluft Park. The Naukluft Hiking Trail is 120km long and you can choose a two,four and eight-day option. The trail is only open from March until the third Friday in October and there are basic overnight shelters with water available along the trail. In some areas it is necessary to hold on to chains as you slowly make your way through valleys with hidden pools, cliffs and across hills.
There also are several half-day and day routes that can be undertaken in the Naukluft Park.
Tok Tokkie Trails
These desert walking trails are done at a leisurely pace and your guide will focus on the fauna and flora of the desert. The route is 22 km long and takes three days, your second night can be spent under the stars in the Namib Desert. All equipment for this trail is provided so you only need to bring your hiking boots, hat, clothes and sunblock.
Ugab Hiking Trail
This two night, three day hiking trail is about 50km long and lets you explore the Ugab River. The trail is only open from April to October. Hikers sleep in the open and must carry their own equipment. You will explore the plains of the Namib Desert, the lichen fields and the Ugab River on the hike.
Waterberg Hiking Trail
Exploring the Waterberg Plateau Park and the having the possibility of coming face to face with buffalo and black rhino, makes this four day hike an exciting adventure. Hikers must be alert and be able to think on their feet. The route is 50 km long and there are basic overnight shelters with water and toilets. The trail can be undertaken in November.
