Welcome to Aus

Aus sort of reminds you of a town that would feature in a western movie and easily can be described as one of the smallest towns in the world. Situated in the south west of Namibia, Aus was a prisoner-of-war camp for German prisoners during World War I.
The town nowadays is a trading centre for karakul sheep farmers from the area. It also has a very wide variety of plant species - a fifth of Namibia's entire flora can be seen in it's surrounds. Travelling on the road between Luderitz and Aus, you have the chance of spotting the wild horses of the Namib Desert, as well as visiting Namibia's famous ghost town, Kolmanskop. There are very comfortable and good quality accommodation in and around the area and you can opt to stay here for one night when coming from the Fish River Canyon and then visiting Kolmanskop the follwing day on your way to Luderitz. Travelling north from Aus to Sossusvlei, you will pass the impressive Tsarris mountains and can visit the Duwisib Castle.
