Henties Bay was discovered when a fresh-water spring in the area was stumbled upon by Major Hentie van der Merwe in 1929. For years Henties Bay was his private escape, nowadays it is a popular holiday resort amongst locals. Situated about 70 km north from Swakopmund, Henties Bay is close to the Cape Cross. Here you will find a large colony of the Cape Fur Seal - which is very noisy and smelly gathering of these animals, but well worth the visit. A visit to Cape Cross can be scheduled on a journey between Twyfelfontein and Swakopmund.
