When thinking of Namibia, the Namib desert probably springs to mind to most people. Our beautiful Namibia actually is home to a second desert, the Kalahari_Desert>" id="Kalahari_Desert209">Kalahari Desert.
The Kalahari lies to the east of Namibia, also stretching to Botswana and South Africa. It was formed by the erosion of soft stone formations and was shaped by the wind into the typical sand ridges. Typical of the Kalahari are the magnificent red sand dunes, which are formed by a thin layer of red iron oxide that covers each grain of sand.
Some areas can enjoy quite a good rainfall and therefore might be covered with grass after such a good season.
As there is more vegetation in the Kalahari Desert than in the Namib Desert, a wider variety of fauna occurs here. Some of the wildlife that you might expect to see while visiting the Kalahari are giraffe, hartebeest, springbok, kudu and duiker.
