Kaokoland

If you're visiting Namibia with the aim to get away from everday hustle and bustle and you simply want to relax in a wilderness area surrounded by nature, peace and quiet then Kaokoland is one of the places you want to be. Depending on how far you go into this wilderness area, you might come across a few scattered Himba villages in this rocky area. Continuing further north to the border of Angola, the Epupa Falls await you. The area surrounding the falls offers beautifully coloured rock walls with wild fig, baobab and Makalani palms. Further east from the Epupa Fals, are the Ruacana Falls, situated 20 km from Ruacana.
In the Huab and Hoanib Rivers you might encounter the desert adapted elephants, who are known to roam this area for food and drink. They feed on the barks of trees such as the Mopane and Ana tree. Be careful though when camping, it is strongly advised to rather use existing camping sites and not to camp at waterholes. You should steer clear from the elephant migration routes and do not attempt to leave your car when you get to meet these amazing animals.
Popular destinations surrounding Kaokoland is the Skeleton Coast, Damaraland and the Etosha National Park.
