Karibib is a small town situated en-route between Windhoek and Swakopmund in Namibia. Most famous for the marble quarry on the outskirts of town, this town is easily passed through without taking much notice of it.
However, the Henkert Tourist Centre is well worth a visit and a refreshing stop in this town that can become extremely hot during summer months.
The marble from the area is used for tombstones and for decorations in houses and buildings. Some of the marble also is exported to Europe. There is a gold mine (not open to the public) in the area.
The Brandberg in this region is Namibia's highest mountain - it's highest peak, Koenigstein, is 2 579m high. The Brandberg is famous for the controversial rock painting known as the White Lady. You can reach the San painting only by foot - the hike along a marked route takes about an hour and requires considerable fitness.
