Owamboland is situated north of Etosha National Park, between Kaokoland and the Caprivi Region. A very large percentage of Namibia's population live in the 56 100km2 that makes up the Owambo Region.
The major segment of this region consists of communal farm land, meaning that there is no individual owner of the land and that the people live from subsistence farming.
The topography of the region is mainly flat landscape with shallow depressions, known locally as oshanas. During Namibia' rainy season the oshanas are fed by floods in the region. Popular trees in the area are the marula tree and makalani palm tree.
Oshakati and Ondangwa are the two main towns in this region and after Windhoek, Oshakati and Ondangwa has the second largest concentration of people in the country. A popular sight not only in these towns but also throughout Owamboland, are the cuca shops which is the two-in-one version of a bar and a liquor store.
