Welcome to Ruacana

Ruacana is a small town in northern Namibia, situated on the border of Angola and the town has an underground hydro-power station. The underground hydro-power station generates electricity at 11 000 volt, transforming it to 330 000 volt and from here it is distributed to parts of Namibia.
The Ruacana Falls are formed by the Kunene River and are situtated about 20km east of the town. When in full flood, the waterfall is 120 meters high and 700 meters wide. However, a regulation dam and pumping station is built upstream of Ruacana from where water could be pumped into Owamboland during the drier seasons when human and animal life depends on it for survival. For this reason there are parts of the year when the Ruacana Falls are dry.
