Swakopmund is Namibia's most favoured coastal town, ideally situated as a stop-over on a tour with reasonable distances to Sossusvlei, Twyfelfontein and Etosha National Park. Swakopmund was founded in 1892 and served as the main harbour in those years. The town has a traditional appeal and strolling through the streets you will come across architecture that reminds you of a bygone period. Swakopmund has a wide range of activities - both for the courageous and tranquil traveller. There is an endless list of activities that you can partake in while staying in Swakopmund - be it a Catamaran Cruise, quad biking, sand boarding or tandem skydiving. The town also is ideal for shopping and there a couple of magnificent cafe's to enjoy the relaxed beach lifestyle. A stroll on the beach can take you past the mole, the jetty, the aquarium and a favourite beach bar where even your dog is allowed and from where the sunsets are truly astonishing. To truly experience this town between the Namib Desert and the Atlantic Ocean, we recommend a stay of at least two days.
