Tsumkwe |
|
Bushmanland is found in North-eastern Namibia with its only town being Tsumkwe. While in Tsumkwe - enquire about our "Gods must be crazy" tour to the region, where you can engage in the day-to-day lives of the San people (Bushmen). The Khaudum National Park in Bushmanland is a wilderness area that rarely sees visitors and is only accessible via 4x4. The park is home to a large number of Roan Antelope and the rarely seen Wild Dog.
Tsumkwe is a small town in the north eastern part of Namibia, about 40 kilometers from the border with Botswana and 60km south of Kaudom Game Park. Its urban development consists of a few shops and a lone petrol station. You will need to keep your wits about you on your way to Tsumkwe, because if you blink, you just might miss it. Tsumkwe is the main settlement in Bushmanland, which is the administrative centre for the surrounding community.
Places of interest within the area include a large peculiar looking Baobab tree, the Khaudum Game Park and the Nyae Nyae Pans. The main tourist attraction in Tsumkwe is the presence of the nomadic Bushmen people. The actual town is very poor and many of the inhabitants are dependant on alcohol, so if you're looking for a more cultural bushman experience, you will need to explore the outskirts.
The Living Museum at Grashoek village will allow you to meet traditionally dressed Ju/Hoansi San people and immerse yourself in their culture. You can learn how they've managed to survive using ancient techniques gained from generations of accumulated knowledge. We also offer a specialised ‘Gods must be crazy Tour’, where interaction with the local Ju/Hoansi Bushman tribe can be enjoyed.
