Welcome to Windhoek

Windhoek is Namibia's capital city and it is a brilliant blend of culture, scenery, top-class accommodation, arts & crafts and the Namibian version of city life. Initially Windhoek was known as Ai-Gams. When the Nama captain, Jan Jonker Afrikaner, settled here, he gave the town the name it carries today. It is said that in a moment of longing, he named the place after Winterhoek, his place of birth in the Cape Province. The name later changed to Windhuk and later became Windhoek. The capital city is surrounded by the Auas Mountains, Eros Mountains and the Khomas Hochland. As Windhoek is ideally situated almost in the centre of the country, it is the ideal starting point for your journey. With International flights arriving at the Hosea Kutako International Airport, Windhoek can be enjoyed for a day or two to unwind and get into the holiday mood. Before setting off on your journey through the country, there are plenty of sightseeing that can be done in the capital city. Join a city and township tour, explore the history of the city, stay at a wellness centre outside of town and search for arts & crafts at the craft markets.
